ॐ Om

Om Symbol - Unryu Wall Scroll close up view

Close up view of the artwork mounted to this silk brocade wall scroll

This is a print of the sacred Om symbol (sometimes romanized as "Aum"). This symbol is used in various Dharmic religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. Most will associate this as a mantra and mystical sound of Hindu origin.

Unryu Paper

Because the white fibers are hard to see in the images above...
...Here is a slightly-exaggerated view of the Unryu paper.

This is printed on handmade/hand-pressed Japanese "Unryu Kozo" paper with many white kozo (mulberry) fibers pressed into the content (you will see lots of white fibers pressed into this paper). The artwork was then mounted as a handmade two-tone silk brocade wall scroll.

The result is a beautiful representation of Om.

The print was created on a fine art giclee printer. The fine lines and complex geometry would make it impractical to paint this artwork by hand (or at the very least, it would cost 3x more if inked by hand).

Gary's random little things about China:

Beijing/Peking Roast Duck:

If you order Peking Roast Duck, you should do so only in Beijing, China (anywhere else, it's just not the same).

A hot tip: Always ask how long it will take before the duck is served.
If they tell you any timeframe less than 30 minutes, change your mind and order the Kung Pao Chicken (Gong Bao Ji Ding) instead.
The reason: If they can serve Beijing Roast Duck in less than 30 minutes, that means you are getting "pre-cooked" duck.
If you have to "duck the duck", next time look for a restaurant with ducks hanging over an open wood fire.
