龍館 can be translated as “dragon hall” or “dragon school”.
Through history, and depending on context, 館 has a lot of possible meanings such as building, shop, embassy, consulate, schoolroom, mansion, palace, manor house, castle, small fortress, or official residence (of a government official).
一心館 can be translated as “Isshin-kan,” or “Single-Mindedness Hall/School.”
神殿 means “Divine Hall” or “Sacred Temple.”
Other meanings include “Temple of the Gods” or “Sacred Shrine Hall.”
In the simplest terms, it means temple, shrine, or sanctuary. This can also be a Japanese surname when pronounced as Kodono.
This title has strong religious and spiritual resonance. Commonly seen in Shinto-themed decor, dojo walls, and meditation rooms.
不動心道場 can be translated as “Fudoshin Dojo,” or “Immovable Mind Hall,” depending on usage.
不動心 = Fudoshin or immovable mind.
道場 = Dojo or training hall.
不動心館 can be translated as “Fudoshinkan,” or “Immovable Mind Hall.”
Fudoshinkan (不動心館) refers to various Japanese martial arts schools, primarily focusing on Aikido, Iaido (sword art), and Jodo (short staff), emphasizing the concept of Fudoshin (不動心) – a calm, immovable mind in the face of challenge, reflecting traditional samurai spirit through dynamic training and inner peace
Immovable mind; unwavering composure. Hall/school (as in -kan / -gwan).
Besides the main title above, 心殿 also means “The heart or mind as a sacred hall” or “Heart Palace.”
心殿 has a Zen-influenced, introspective meaning. Popular in martial arts, meditation, or personal philosophy spaces.
The feeling of these characters is more inward and personal rather than religious.
韓武館 roughly translates as “Hall of Korean Martial Arts” or “Korean Martial Hall.”
Kanbukan is one of the earliest Karate organizations established after WWII in Japan.
Note: Chinese and Korean pronunciations are included above; however, this title is only common in Japan.
沖縄剛柔館 is the martial arts style Okinawan Gojukan or Okinawan Goju-Kan.
The meaning is “Okinawa hardness [and] softness hall.”
沖縄 = Okinawa.
剛 = Hard, firm, or strong.
柔 = Soft, softness, flexible, supple, yielding, gentleness, or pliant.
館 = Hall, building, school room, or an alternate word for a dojo.
光道館 is Kodokan.
This is the title of an Aikido dojo, studio, or hall.
Be careful in selecting the correct Kodokan, as there are a few different titles that romanize as Kodokan.
Here's how the characters break down in meaning for this one:
1. Light / Bright
2. Way / Path (the Tao/Dao as in Taoism/Daoism)
3. Schoolroom / Building / Establishment / Mansion / Hall (of learning)
Altogether, you get something like “The Path of Light Establishment.”
講道館 is a title that refers to a certain kind or school of Judo martial arts.
Here's how the characters break down in meaning for this one:
1. Mutual Assistance or Association. Can also refer to a lecture, speech, or explaining something (as in teaching).
2. Way / Path (the Tao/Dao as in Taoism/Daoism)
3. Schoolroom / Building / Establishment / Mansion / Small Castle / Hall (of learning)
Altogether, you get something like, “The Path of Mutual Learning Hall.”
More about Kodokan from the Institute of Kodokan.
弘道館 is a Japanese title that romanizes as Kodokan.
There are a few martial arts titles that are romanized as Kodokan, so be careful to choose the correct one. This one kind of means “Great Way Hall.”
In the old Buddhist context, the 弘 Kanji can mean vast, great, to enlarge, spread abroad, or widely to proclaim.
The 道 part is the “Way,” as seen in many martial arts titles. It is the root character of Taoism/Daoism (romanized as Tao or Dao from Chinese, but Do in Japanese).
The 館 or hall part is implied to be a dojo or place of learning.
剛柔道場 can be translated as “Goju Dojo,” or “Soft-Hard Training Hall.”
友愛道場 can be translated as “Friendship Dojo.”
友愛 = Friendship or fraternity.
道場 = Training hall.
禅道場 can be translated as “Zen Dojo.”
禅/禪 = Zen or meditation. If you prefer 禪 over 禅, let me know when you order.
道場 = Dojo (training hall).
道場 is the Japanese term for a room or hall in which martial arts are taught.
道場 is often spelled “dojo” which has become a word in the English lexicon. However, the true Romaji is doujou or dōjō.
Please note: The Chinese definition of these characters is quite different. In Chinese, this is a place where Buddhist or Taoist mass is held. It could also be a place where spiritual or psychic events are performed.
松濤館 are the Kanji characters that make up the title for Shotokan.
This should be considered a Japanese-only title. It does make sense and is pronounceable in Chinese and Korean but only as a title for a building (perhaps a martial arts hall) surrounded by pine trees. Also, the first two characters were simplified in both Japanese and Chinese. The third character was simplified in Chinese but not Japanese.
Upon request, we can offer the fully traditional Chinese version but be sure you know what you are asking for.
Note: This would be understood in Chinese and Korean Hanja by a person from those cultures who is familiar with martial arts and various schools of Japanese karate.
鬆濤館空手道 art the Japanese Kanji that make up the title for Shotokan Karate.
This should be considered a Japanese-only title. It does make sense and is pronounceable in Chinese and Korean but only as a title for a building (perhaps a martial arts hall) surrounded by pine trees - followed by the characters for “The empty hand method” (kong shou dao / Karate-do). Also, the first two characters were simplified in both Japanese and Chinese. The third character was simplified in Chinese but not Japanese.
Upon request, we can offer the fully traditional Chinese version but be sure you know what you are asking for.
Note: This would be understood in Chinese and Korean Hanja by a person from those cultures familiar with martial arts and various schools of Japanese karate.

Successful Chinese Character and Japanese Kanji calligraphy searches within the last few hours...
All of our calligraphy wall scrolls are handmade.
When the calligrapher finishes creating your artwork, it is taken to my art mounting workshop in Beijing where a wall scroll is made by hand from a combination of silk, rice paper, and wood.
After we create your wall scroll, it takes at least two weeks for air mail delivery from Beijing to you.
Allow a few weeks for delivery. Rush service speeds it up by a week or two for $10!
When you select your calligraphy, you'll be taken to another page where you can choose various custom options.
The wall scroll that Sandy is holding in this picture is a "large size"
single-character wall scroll.
We also offer custom wall scrolls in small, medium, and an even-larger jumbo size.
Professional calligraphers are getting to be hard to find these days.
Instead of drawing characters by hand, the new generation in China merely type roman letters into their computer keyboards and pick the character that they want from a list that pops up.
There is some fear that true Chinese calligraphy may become a lost art in the coming years. Many art institutes in China are now promoting calligraphy programs in hopes of keeping this unique form
of art alive.
Even with the teachings of a top-ranked calligrapher in China, my calligraphy will never be good enough to sell. I will leave that to the experts.
The same calligrapher who gave me those lessons also attracted a crowd of thousands and a TV crew as he created characters over 6-feet high. He happens to be ranked as one of the top 100 calligraphers in all of China. He is also one of very few that would actually attempt such a feat.
