Together Forever

This features a pair of abstract Mandarin ducks floating under lotus stalks and flowers.

The title is 相守白頭 or "Xiāng shǒu bái tóu" which is a way to say "Together forever" or "Together until old age" in Chinese. More literally, it is a wish to be together until your hair turns white (old age).

The characters following the title are simply the artist's signature and an indication that he painted it in 2010 at the Qing Feng studio.

This painting features a pair of Mandarin ducks floating through patches of lotus flowers and lilies.

In Chinese culture, Mandarin ducks or 鴛鴦 represent a loyal and affectionate couple or a happily married couple.

About the Art

This is a simple painting style, but it also incorporates a lot of detail. This painting really mimics the style of Chinese artwork that has been around for thousands of years.

This artwork is completely hand-painted and is mounted to a handmade silk wall scroll in our workshop.

About the Artist:

The artist's name is WangjianQiu (Wang Jian-Qiu). He lives in Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province in Northern China (about 5 hours south of Beijing). I was introduced to this artist's work at Qin Xia's studio in Jinan. This artist has been a long time friend of Qin Xia (You may recognize Qin Xia's name from artwork in our flowers and birds category). Wang Jian-Qiu also does some great detailed beautiful woman paintings, and occasionally does some landscapes for us as well.
