Tojinbutsu

Portrait Of A Chinese Man

This wall scroll features a reproduction of Tojinbutsu, Portrait Of A Chinese Man, by Japanese artist Keibun, Matsumura (1779-1843).

Some think this depicts an emperor, but it is actually a typical Chinese man of nobility and means (a rich guy - probably an official of the imperial court) from that era.

The inscription to the lower left reads 景文謹寫 or Keibun Sincerely Painted [this].
