龍

Dragon Symbol

Print Scroll

This wall scroll features the character 龍 which means dragon, printed with an auspicious dragon stamp in the background.

龍 is pronounced "Long" in Chinese (but not like the English word, as the vowels sound is like "oh"). In ancient times, only the emperor could wear or display this character (if anyone else did, they could be subject to execution). These days, you are free to display the symbol that represents the most fierce of all creatures in ancient Chinese mythology.

My Little Experiment

New Print Scrolls Hanging

A new batch of printed calligraphy scrolls, hanging in the studio, awaiting proper photography.

I felt like messing around with doing some giclée print calligraphy with various backgrounds. I came up with some layouts that I really like, and passed them around with my Chinese and Japanese friends who gave them rave reviews.

After giclée printing them on Japanese-made kozo paper, I sent the raw artwork off to Beijing to my workshop where they were built into wall scrolls by hand.
