静

Serenity / Tranquility

fiber paper This artwork was painted on very special handmade "grass-leather paper". It has fibers and husks purposely pressed into the finished paper. This gives artwork a very natural and antique look.

This single character is a way to express "serenity" or "tranquility" in Japanese and Chinese. It can also be translated as calm, serenity, tranquil, undisturbed, or serene. It can be pronounced as shizu or sei in Japanese and jing in Chinese.

You may also see this written in the 靜 form, which is the more ancient Chinese way. You will see 静 written in both Japan and China these days.

See our Serenity page for more custom Japanese Kanji calligraphy options related to the idea of serenity.

About this artwork...

The materials used include special calligraphy paper and ink. The artwork was sent to our workshop in Beijing where we created a handmade scroll. By building the wall scroll at our own workshop, we save you a lot of money.

About the artist...

This is authentic Japanese calligraphy by a calligrapher whose pen name is Kougetsu. Kougetsu is a high-quality calligrapher from Japan, offering her work at a bargain price. You would easily pay $230 or more for the same quality of Japanese calligraphy and wall scroll mounting if purchased in Japan. Famous calligrapher's often demand $2500 or more, without a perceived increase in quality.

Therefore, this very nice, authentic Japanese calligraphy wall scroll is a true bargain, and allows you to get "Japanese quality" at an affordable price.
