礼

Respect

This character can also be translated as propriety, good manners, politeness, rite, worship, or an expression of gratitude.

See my Respect web page for more respect-related terms in Chinese and Japanese that you can custom order.

This respect character is one of the tenets or core values of Confucius.

This is also one of the tenets of the Samurai. You may want to have a look at my Bushido - Code of the Samurai - Way of the Warrior web page.

Both modern Japanese and modern mainland Chinese use a simplified version of this respect character as shown above. There is also an original Chinese version that looks like this: 禮 It's the same character, pronounced the same, just written differently.

About this artwork...

The materials used include special calligraphy paper and ink. The artwork was sent to our workshop in Beijing where we created a handmade scroll. By building the wall scroll at our own workshop, we save you a lot of money.

About the artist...

This is authentic Japanese calligraphy by a calligrapher whose pen name is Kougetsu. Kougetsu is a high-quality calligrapher from Japan, offering her work at a bargain price. You would easily pay $230 or more for the same quality of Japanese calligraphy and wall scroll mounting if purchased in Japan. Famous calligrapher's often demand $2500 or more, without a perceived increase in quality.

Therefore, this very nice, authentic Japanese calligraphy wall scroll is a true bargain, and allows you to get "Japanese quality" at an affordable price.
