Both modern Japanese and modern mainland Chinese use a simplified version of this respect character as shown above. There is also an original Chinese version that looks like this:

Famous calligrapher's often demand $2500 or more, without a perceived increase in quality.
Therefore, this very nice, authentic Japanese calligraphy wall scroll is a true bargain, and allows you to get "Japanese quality" at an affordable price.
