Close up view of the plum blossom artwork mounted to this silk brocade wall scroll

This is a very traditional and sophisticated scroll with an old Chinese poem written vertically next to a wonderful plum blossom portrait.
The short poem talks about how the plum blossom being a sign of the coming spring (literally a piece of spring).
I should also mention that the plum blossom often represents a hearty and strong woman in Chinese culture.
The Chinese characters include the year painted (2007), the artist's signature red stamp, and an old Chinese poem about the strong yet beautiful nature of plum blossoms.
This is a freehand style painting by Chen Fen-Qing of Nanjing (an ancient capital city of China).
Materials used in this work are watercolor and special black Chinese ink on rice paper. Later I had the painting mounted to a silk wall scroll.
