rollable mounting method for horizontal scroll?

Post by Xiaode » May 6, 2014 2:43 am

Hello everybody,

at my institute, we have two very long horizontal calligraphies that are longer than the rooms in which they are to be displayed. Do you know of a solution for hanging scrolls on the wall where both ends are rolled up (somewhat like in a handscroll), but mounted on rollable axles so that the visible part of the calligraphy can be scrolled back and forth? Somebody mentioned seeing a contraption like that at a museum, but I haven't been able to find further information about it.
Any help, hints or pointers would be very much appreciated.

In that case, you just have to display it on a table.

That's kind of the intent of so-called hand-scrolls or table-scrolls. I've been in nearly every art gallery and art market in all of China over the past 13 years, and have never seen a device to do what you intend.
