New Order

Post by Sirinia27 » May 6, 2012 8:00 pm

I just recently found out about your site and I am in the process of painting a picture as the final for my SDSU Japanese Painting Class. I would love to get it sent to get mounted on a custom scroll so if you could get me an idea of the cost, time frame etc., that would be awesome. My final will be presented this Tuesday. I am painting on 17 by 28 Xuan paper. Thank you in advance and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

You seem to be talking in terms of days. I really can't turn a wall scroll job in less than a month. It has to go to my workshop in Beijing, China for mounting.

Info about that is here:
http://www.orientaloutpost.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10
It costs about $32.88 plus shipping.

There are some local mounters in Los Angeles. But they charge up to $200 per wall scroll:

OH I'm sorry, I know it takes at least a month in China...I was talking about getting it to you so you can send it away. I am presenting it today in class and was hoping to have it back to you by next week. Sorry for the confusion. Also, if I could get a price quote that would be awesome.

Just post a squared-up (not at some crazy angle) image of the artwork here on the forum along with measurements. I'll create a link where you can customize the silk color and other options, and checkout. Then you can mail the artwork to our workshop in Beijing. Weeks later, you'll have a mounted wall scroll.

Is it the same cost if I were to send Two instead of one? And do you need actual size or requested final size?

Well, it will cost you about the same postage to send two unmounted pieces to Beijing.

The cost per wall scroll does not change with quantity. However, return shipping is never higher than $9.80 for an entire order (so you save by doing more pieces that way). Also, right now, you can get free return shipping if your order total is over $88.

As far as size: It's expected that the trim will remove about 1cm from the width (and same on length). If the mounted size will yield a paper panel width of about 33cm or less, you get to pay the medium-size wall scroll price. It jumps up a lot for paper panels over 33cm but under 50cm, and jumps up again for paper panels from 50cm to 68cm.

Just give me your intended mounted paper panel measurements, but I hope your raw size is not much more than 1cm larger than the trimmed size.

Here is a picture of the work...It measures 27.5 by 18.25...and I just need it trimmed so it is even. I'm sorry it has taken so much time...thank you.

Here's the link to place your order:
http://www.orientaloutpost.com/options. ... age=geisha
Please note that I can't color correct your image, so use a little imagination when considering the appearance of the mockup. I suggest ivory silk to go with the red paper.

After you do that, here's the shipping instructions:

Cheers,

I just ran a bunch of test transactions via credit card and Paypal. I could not get it to error.

If you want to use Paypal, do you want me to send you a Paypal invoice?
I have your order record saved, so no need to do that again.

You can move on to the shipping step and we can figure out the payment issues at our leisure.

Yeah it messed up when I tried again. Can I ship it in a roll container like they use for posters? I dont want to fold it.

I would use a small mailing tube. While folds usually come out during mounting, I prefer to just roll raw artwork.

Not sure what the site is doing to you when you try to checkout. I ran credit card and paypal transactions last night without a problem. I did change some javascript recently, so maybe the old version is in your browser cache. This might cause an infinite loop during checkout. What's happening to you when you try?

Yup it was an infinite loop that ran when I pressed pay. If you could send me an invoice that would be awesome. One more question, UPS place or regular Post Office to mail the tube?

I sent you a Paypal invoice.

As far as shipping, I'd try to find a basic mailing tube (the post office sells them but they cost $2.39 each there). I would send it to Beijing via whatever mail service you feel comfortable with. Priority Mail and Express Mail offer tracking and insurance, but First Class International is cheapest.

Ok..thank you Gary. I received the invoice and it is now paid...YAY The order number is the same as the invoice number? Not sure actually as I don't think it says it. I know that is the only thing that goes with the art. Thank you again. It will be a long couple of months waiting...LOL.

Your order number is 15403

Just enclose that number on a piece of paper in the tube along with your artwork. All the records and information about how your artwork is to be mounted is filed under that number. I've already translated all that into into Chinese so that they can accurately get it done once your artwork arrives in Beijing.

Re: New Order - shipping question

Post by Sirinia27 » Jul 16, 2012 8:16 pm

Now that I have mailed off my package, I have tracked it leaving San Diego to Los Angeles to CANADA? Is this normal. I keep checking to make sure I put the right number in the tracker and also the copy of my customs label. It clearly says in the to section:

LI HONGLIANG
TONGZHOU DISTRICT, LIYUANZHEN
CUIPINGBEILI 18-111
101121 BEIJING
CHINA

And the USPS tracker says:
Customs Clearance
July 16, 2012, 1:14 am
CANADA

International Parcels
Processed Through Sort Facility
July 16, 2012, 1:14 am
CANADA

IS THIS NORMAL? I am starting to worry the USPS screwed this up.

Double check the tracking number and post it here. If it's EMS, the number should probably start with "EC" and end with "US".

When I tried, I got an error on the USPS.com
I guess the tracking feature is not working now.

It is possible this was transferred to an Air Canada flight (now that I think about it). I can't be sure though since I don't work for USPS.

I can't explain the time it may or may not have spent in Canada. It makes me wonder if the country selected for the label was correct. Anyway, it just left San Francisco for China a few days ago.

OH holy cow! China via the entire West Coast of North America! Please let me know once it finally gets to your shop in Beijing. I'm so glad that the Canadians seem to be on the ball while the USPS IS apparently NOT!!!!
