I have inherited what I am told is a kamikaze tanto and headband. I am uncertain what the kanji says or if I have it right side up! Any help would really appreciated for this first time poster -- Thanks in advance! cl

The original one (not the one you titled "reverse") is the correct orientation.
The large characters say 神風 ("kami kaze" or "divine wind"). This is written from right-to-left as ancient Japanese was (modern Japanese is written left-to-right, like English).
It would take me a while to translate the small text, so I can't quite do that for free. Sorry.
