馬到成功

Where There Are Horses, There is Success

The Chinese title is "Ma Dao, Cheng Gong". The first two characters can be translated directly as "Horses Arrival". The second two mean "Achievement" or "Success".

This is a famous saying in China. It probably started during the Tang Dynasty, and therefore, horses and horse ownership has been a sign of one's success for over a thousand years.

After the title, the other characters include the year and season painted (Spring, 2007), and the artist's signature.

The artist's name is 閑雲 (Xian Yun), from near Guilin, China. He is a good friend of artist Ou-Yang Guo-De's sister.

This is painted on tan xuan paper (rice paper) and mounted with a silk border at our workshop.
