氣

Energy

Orange Fiber Paper Print Scroll

This scroll features the 氣 character printed with a dragon stamp in the background.

氣 means energy in Chinese characters, Japanese Kanji, and old Korean Hanja. But there is a little more to it...

氣 is your vital energy or an internal life force. Some will translate this as spirit, mind, heart, nature, disposition, motivation, intention, mood, feelings, or other ideas about the energy that flows through you. Chinese martial arts practitioners often talk of harnessing your chi to overcome limitations and perform amazing feats.

In Chinese, 氣 is often romanized as "Chi" or "Qi" (the same pronunciation, as the Q, represents a "ch" sound). From Japanese, it's usually romanized as "Ki" (sounds like "key"). From Korean, it's "Gi" (like ghee).

You can imagine the Enso circle in the background of this print represents the ongoing or eternal circle of your internal energy.
