This depicts Gautama Buddha, also known as Siddhārtha Gautama, Shakyamuni Buddha, or simply The Buddha. In Chinese, he is 釈迦牟尼 (Shìjiāmóuní), the historical Buddha who first found the path to enlightenment and shared that personally and via his disciples throughout Asia in the late 5th and early 4th centuries BCE.
He is the legendary man on whose teachings Buddhism was founded.
The Buddha taught a Middle Way or Middle Path between a life of indulgence and an overly strict life of a saint or yogi.
Along with this, mindfulness was taught as a method to be in the present moment, and ignore the impermanent toils and troubles of past experience or future worries.
Perhaps most importantly, the causation relationship between human attachment, desire, and greed to human suffering along with how to take the path away from suffering was taught to his followers.
