This depicts a mother carrying her young boy. The child is carried by just a piece of heavy cloth wrapped around the mother's body.
This is a picture I took in March, 2003 as I walked through a small town in southern China. You can see that this is still the traditional way that many minority people of China carry their babies.

In this picture, the mother has just finished shopping for food in the village market and it heading home to prepare a meal for her family.
The clothing that she is wearing is a very traditional ethnic style.
