Guanyin - Goddess of Mercy

The title of this piece is "Guanyin Blesses You".

The deity depicted here is Guanyin, the Buddhist goddess of mercy. This is the deity you pray to for various things, including a male child and mercy in this and the next life, in regards to karma.
Note that I said "goddess" but actually, Buddhist deities are not supposed to have gender. However, Guanyin is often depicted with female characteristics.

This was painted and is signed by Liang Dao of Guilin China. This artist does lots of figure paintings, including warriors and deities.

Painted earlier this year (2007) - this date is noted in the Chinese characters, along with the title and artist's signature.

This is painted on xuan paper (rice paper), I later took it back to our workshop in Beijing and had it mounted by hand to a silk wall scroll.
