Snow Horses

This painting depicts two strong horses braving a snow storm together.

In Chinese culture horses also mean "success". In fact The old Chinese saying "Ma dao cheng gong" can be translated into English as "Where there are horses, there is success". Probably because only rich people could afford horses - (but that's just my opinion).

This painting is by Chen Yong who lives in Xi'an China, but was born outside Xi'an in a small farming village. He grew up very poor as the son of farmers, but he continued to struggle to improve himself and his artistic skills. This effort continued for most of his life, until age 50 when he was discovered, and became a famous artist in Xi'an.

This work is painted freehand style on rice paper with water color and special Chinese ink. It was then mounted with a beautiful silk border/matting.
