Please first note that we do not offer this service for (much) profit. This is more a courtesy for people in these positions:- Independent artists around the world.
- Those that were tricked by unscrupulous sellers in eBay into buying un-mounted artwork that no western framer could deal with.
- Those who accidentally bought un-mounted Asian artwork as tourists in China, Japan, Korea, etc.
Also note: Our price is good, our quality is excellent, but we are not fast. Lately, it is taking 2-3 months for custom mounting jobs to be completed and returned to our customers.
We do not want to re-mount any antique wall scrolls. We can, we just don't want to. The whole shop has to virtually shut down while we take up to 50 hours for just one antique wall scroll. If you want to remount a previously-mounted, or antique wall scroll, you will have to beg (a lot).
Tour our Asian Art Mounting Workshop - See how wall scrolls are built.
We can take your un-mounted artwork (on raw xuan paper) and mount it to a handmade silk wall scroll at our workshop in Beijing.
Prices are $20 for a wall scroll with an artwork panel up to 33cm (13") wide.
It is $1 extra for each additional centimeter of width ($2.50 for each additional inch of width).
Shipping charges are $15.80 for the first wall scroll, and $4.80 for each additional wall scroll shipped with the same order.
Color choices for this special price are gold, white, or ivory silk.
Other colors are available, but there is a one-time preparation charge of $10 for special colors. This $10 fee applies just once, whether you are having one or a hundred scrolls made.
Special solid wood rollers and museum-quality polished hardwood knobs are available for $20 extra per scroll. This fee is about half for the materials, and half for the increase in the actual cost of postage to get the heavier scroll shipped to you from China.
If you are going to send artwork, here are the addresses:
Note, if sending to our USA addresses, a $5 fee will be added to your total to offset the cost of forwarding your artwork to Beijing.

New requirement before you send us your artwork:
Please get out your digital camera and take a picture of your unmounted artwork. Then post the resulting digital image on this forum for an initial evaluation. This will also help me track your project later. It may also save time and money for everyone, if I find a special issue with your artwork when I review the image.
When you send us your artwork, be sure to enclose a 3x5 card or paper with your name, email, address, and preferences for silk color, knobs, etc.
Alternately, you can post your paper color, wooden knob, and silk color requests on this forum with the pictures of your artwork (but keep your name and address private, and just enclose that in the package you send to us).
As of January 1st, 2008, we will be keeping track of all orders via this forum. I can no longer accept artwork without digital images to keep track of them through the process (since you can't write identifying marks on the artwork, it has to be visually tracked as it is mounted and shipped to and from our locations in San Diego and Beijing). If you cannot take your own digital images, and post them, we are willing to do it for you at a charge of $5 per item (I don't want to make money doing that, I simply just don't want to spend time taking pictures of artwork which is not-really-for-profit).
Why the change?
A recent problem with Homeland Security removing important paperwork from a package bound for San Diego rendered me blind when trying to identify which artwork belonged to which customer. I don't want to go through that again.
Thus, the digital image requirement. |
