5. From This Moment Forward / From This Day Forward
10. This is Life
A line from Shakespeare's Hamlet
五福臨門 means “five good fortunes arrive [at the] door.”
It is understood to mean “may the five blessings descend upon this home.”
These blessings are known in ancient China to be: longevity, wealth, health, virtue, and natural death (living to old age). This is one of several auspicious sayings you might hear during the Chinese New Year.
This means “Bless this house” or “Bless this home,” in Japanese.
Some may also translate this as “Bless this family,” since the Kanji for home can also mean family.
Note: Because this selection contains some special Japanese Hiragana characters, it should be written by a Japanese calligrapher.
This phrase means “Old and ailing with little time left” or “Not long for this world.”
There is a real suggestion here that someone will die soon.
This was added by a special request of a customer and is perhaps, not the most positive phrase that you could put on a wall scroll.
This would be the most offensive possible gift to give to an older person - please do not do that!
In simple terms, 從此以后 means “from now on,” but you can also interpret it as “Now is the beginning of the future” or “From this day forward.
The first two characters roughly mean “henceforth.” The last two characters mean later, afterward, following, or “in the future.”
歌曲 is a Chinese, Japanese Kanji, and old Korean Hanja for song, melody, or tune.
There are a few other words that can mean melody, but this is probably the most common and universal.
唱 is how to refer to singing or song in Chinese.
In Japanese, the meaning is similar but more closely means chant, recite or yell. Best if your audience is Chinese.
一切都將過去 is a phrase that means “this too shall pass” in Chinese.
This should be a reminder on your wall that no matter how bad things get, difficulties in life are transient and will go away in time.
This is not the only way to express this idea, as there are also 这一切都会过去 and 一切都会过去.
The version we are using here is more traditional sounding.

All of our calligraphy wall scrolls are handmade.
When the calligrapher finishes creating your artwork, it is taken to my art mounting workshop in Beijing where a wall scroll is made by hand from a combination of silk, rice paper, and wood.
After we create your wall scroll, it takes at least two weeks for air mail delivery from Beijing to you.
Allow a few weeks for delivery. Rush service speeds it up by a week or two for $10!
When you select your calligraphy, you'll be taken to another page where you can choose various custom options.
The wall scroll that Sandy is holding in this picture is a "large size"
single-character wall scroll.
We also offer custom wall scrolls in small, medium, and an even-larger jumbo size.
Professional calligraphers are getting to be hard to find these days.
Instead of drawing characters by hand, the new generation in China merely type roman letters into their computer keyboards and pick the character that they want from a list that pops up.
There is some fear that true Chinese calligraphy may become a lost art in the coming years. Many art institutes in China are now promoting calligraphy programs in hopes of keeping this unique form
of art alive.
Even with the teachings of a top-ranked calligrapher in China, my calligraphy will never be good enough to sell. I will leave that to the experts.
The same calligrapher who gave me those lessons also attracted a crowd of thousands and a TV crew as he created characters over 6-feet high. He happens to be ranked as one of the top 100 calligraphers in all of China. He is also one of very few that would actually attempt such a feat.
